The battle of Austerlitz, fought on 2 December 1805, saw the French under Napoleon annihilate a larger Russian and Austrian army led by Czar Alexander I and Holy Roman Emperor Francis II. Because of the near-perfect execution of a calibrated but dangerous plan, the battle is often seen as Napoleon's tactical masterpiece.
During the battle, an aide-de-camp from Marshal Soult* rode up to Napoleon and said, "The marshal is embarrassed, sire, at the superior force of the Russians which is moving to attack him, and foresees that he may be obliged to shift his ground."
"Tell Soult, I foresee no such thing," replied Napoleon. "He must die where he is."
一八零五年十二月二日奧斯特利茨之役，拿破崙指揮法軍，以寡敵眾，殲滅沙皇亞歷山大一世、神聖羅馬皇帝法郎西斯二世率領的俄羅斯、奧地利聯軍。是次戰役，拿破崙兵行險着，而計算精準，策略執行幾乎完美無瑕，世人多視為他用兵的代表作。

拿破崙回答說：「告訴蘇爾特，我並不預料須如此。他必須穩守陣地，死而後已。」
