英國十九世紀著名政治家格萊斯頓（William Gladstone）一八八五年六月十九日致函兄長（Thomas Gladstone），談到退休，其中一句也用了well done without me四字，可供參考：My profound desire is retirement, and nothing has prevented or will prevent my giving effect to that desire, unless there should appear to be something in which there may be a prospect of my doing what could not be as well done without me（我深盼退休，此意至今未改，也終將不改，除非將來有事，無我則不能辦得好）。
問：我邀客人一聚，他回答說Let me revert，這是不是Let me reply you later（我稍後回答你）的意思？
答：那位客人應說的是I will get back to you（容後奉覆），而不是Let me revert。Revert不可解作「回答」或「再聯絡（某人）」，這一點拙欄談過，今不贅。留意reply解作「回答」，是不及物動詞（intransitive verb），其後不可直接受詞（object）。「我稍後回答你」英文可說I will answer you later或I will reply to you later。
