問:以下一句,so that二字用得正不正確?──I smelled something wrong, so that I went back to the room with my children(我嗅嗅,覺得有些不妥,於是和我的孩子回到房間)。
(1)Come early so that we may start early(早點來,這樣我們就可以早點出發)。(2)We staggered our working hours so that the enquiry office was manned 24 hours a day(為使詢問處整天二十四小時都有人當值,我們安排在不同時間上下班)。
不過,so that還可解作「因此」或「所以」,用法和so或and so相同,例如:(1)She woke up crying from a bad dream, so that / so / and so her husband took her in his arms to comfort her(她從惡夢之中哭着醒來,她丈夫於是抱着她,以示安慰)。(2)The gravestones were covered with moss, so that it was impossible to read the names on them(墓碑上長滿青苔,因此看不到碑上的名字)。
