答:這位讀者誤會了。曾偉雄是說:「我認為,以『有無武器』判斷『有無暴力行為』,並不是個好主意。」所以,黑社會持刀棒襲擊和平集會民眾,曾偉雄警隊不視為暴行;和平民眾用保鮮紙裹面強捱胡椒噴霧,則視為「暴力衝擊警方防線」。曾偉雄真不愧香港警賊之首。
問:「不識時務」英文怎麼說?
答:「識時務」本來是指「了解時代趨勢」,是個褒詞;但現在往往也用來說「隨波逐流,重私利而輕原則」,有貶義。英文成語to know / see which way the wind blows即「知道/觀察風向」,那「風向」當然是比喻時勢;此外,to know which side one's bread is buttered即「知道麵包哪一面塗了牛油」,比喻「重視利益所在」。這兩句成語,都可以用來翻譯「(不)識時務」,例如:(1)If Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu had known which way the wind blew, he would not have been executed(羅馬尼亞獨裁者壽西斯古不是不識時務,最後就不會遭處決)。(2)Soon after the June 4 massacre, Leung Chun-ying turned his back on the democracy movement.
