問：Here am I -- with my stomach rumbling and my throat parched（而我則在這裏，饑腸轆轆，口燥喉乾）這一句，parched之前應加is嗎？
答：Parched之前假如加is，句子文法就錯了。With一字，常用來帶出分詞子句（participle clause），以說明一些隨同某事的狀態。那分詞可以是ing動詞（即現在分詞，present participle），也可以是完成式動詞（即過去分詞，past participle），例如：（1）With the rain pattering on the roof, I fell asleep（屋頂雨聲淅瀝，伴我入睡）。（2）He walked out, with his head held high（他昂首走了出去）。留意pattering、held等分詞之前，不可加is、was等輔助動詞。
