The photograph on the right bears the caption "Hong Kong police beat peaceful protesters" / The photograph on the right is captioned "Hong Kong police beat peaceful protesters"(右邊照片的說明是「香港公安毆打和平抗議者」)。
(1)With reference to the caption, I think "protesters" should be changed to "detainees"(電郵標題中的「抗議者」,我認為應改作「被拘留者」)。(2)With reference to the captioned (subject), I believe the police were just following orders(電郵標題所述的事,我認為那些公安只是奉命而行)。寫電郵,討論的一般不是電郵的標題(the caption),而是標題所述人或事物(the captioned person / subject),所以常用the captioned這說法。
問:Suggest doing something、suggest to do something(提議做某事)這兩個說法,那個正確?
答:Suggest之後不可用「to+原形動詞(infinitive)」,須用ing動詞或that子句(clause),例如:I suggested visiting him / I suggested that we (should) visit him(我提議去探訪他)。
