I should be grateful if you would的would字,應改為could,對嗎?
答:I should be grateful if you would / could help這一句,無論用would還是could,文法都正確,也都可譯做「倘蒙相助,至感」。不過,could的確比would好。
I would help if I could(假如能力所及,我願意幫忙)。 I should be grateful if you would...,對方假如拒絕,等於說「我不願意幫忙」,這對雙方恐怕都有點難堪;改說I should be grateful if you could...,對方假如拒絕,等於「非不願也,是不能也」,雙方顏面都可保存。所以,I should be grateful if you could...
I have been talking to the government for so many years, but nothing has come of it。句中的come of是不是應改為come to?
(1)Global warming is what comes of / from humanity's wanton destruction of the environment(人類肆意破壞環境,結果是全球變暖)。(2)Such accidents come of / from carelessness(這類意外事故,起因是大意)。
