答：I should be grateful if you would / could help這一句，無論用would還是could，文法都正確，也都可譯做「倘蒙相助，至感」。不過，could的確比would好。
Would多指「意願」，could則指「能力」，例如：I would help if I could（假如能力所及，我願意幫忙）。向人家提出要求，說I should be grateful if you would...，對方假如拒絕，等於說「我不願意幫忙」，這對雙方恐怕都有點難堪；改說I should be grateful if you could...，對方假如拒絕，等於「非不願也，是不能也」，雙方顏面都可保存。所以，I should be grateful if you could...是較妥當的說法。
問：讀報見到以下一句：I have been talking to the government for so many years, but nothing has come of it。句中的come of是不是應改為come to？
答：Come和of或from連用，可表示「起因」或「結果」，例如：（1）Global warming is what comes of / from humanity's wanton destruction of the environment（人類肆意破壞環境，結果是全球變暖）。（2）Such accidents come of / from carelessness（這類意外事故，起因是大意）。讀者示下那一句，come of不可改為come to，否則句子就無法解釋。原句是說：「我跟政府談論多年，但毫無結果。」
