問：小女週記寫遊昂坪，說People do not want to miss things like the Big Buddha（誰都不想錯過大佛等東西），又說I hope I can have this kind of trips with my parents more regularly（我希望能夠多點和父母一起這樣旅遊）。英文老師說第一句things之前應加the，第二句hope之後應用I could，先生同意嗎？
答：說「像……那樣的人、物」，那人、物英文假如用單數形式，一般用a、an帶出，不用the；假如用複數形式，一般也不冠以the，例如：（1）He did odd jobs like washing windows and mowing lawns（他做些零碎工作，例如洗窗、修剪草地等）。（2）I would like to have a house like yours（我希望有一幢像你那樣的房子）。讀者說的第一句，things之前不應加the。但things假如改為sights（景物）或attractions（吸引遊人的地方），當會好一點。要表示那些景物不可不看，則可說must-see sights / attractions。
至於hope之後的I can，也不應改為I could，因為hope是有機會實現的希望。假如希望不可能或不大可能實現，那應用wish，其後用would、could等假設語氣助動詞，例如：（1）I hope the train arrives on time（我希望火車準時到達）。（2）I wish I could fly（我希望可以飛行）。讀者說的第二句，this kind of trips改為this kind of trip會好一點，但不改也可以。
