答：在一些動詞之前，舊式英文常用is、am等取代has、have。那些動詞常見的有come、arrive、go、depart、rise、fall、set、finish、grow等。例如英文文學名著《天路歷程》（The Pilgrim's Progress）卷上有以下一句：But how doth（= does）it happen that you came so late? The sun is（= has）set（但你怎麼這樣遲才到達？太陽已經西沉）。
又《御用聖經．馬太福音》第五章有以下一句：Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil（不要以為我之到來，是要破壞法律，除卻先知：我到來不是要破除，而是要建樹）。這一句，《改譯標準本聖經》把兩個am都改為have：Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them。
今天，用be取代has、have的句子很少見，但這用法仍殘存於一些成語之中，It is my dream（that is）come true就是一例。另一常見例子是餐廳服務員問顧客吃完了沒有：Are you finished, sir / madam?這一句的are，當然可以改為have，但不改也絕對正確。
舊式英文用法，有些實在不可不知，否則把My dream is come true這樣的句子視為錯誤，恐會貽笑大方。
