問：十月五日貴欄把as of 23 September譯做「九月二十三日為止」。但據我所知，as of是「由（某個日期）開始」。「截止（某個日期）」是不是應說as at？
答：查《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》和《朗文當代高級英文詞典》，都不見as at，只見「as of等於as from」的注釋。
查《朗文商業英文詞典》（Longman Dictionary of Business English），則不見as of，卻可看到as at解作on a certain date（在某個日期），as from則解作from a certain date onwards（由某個日期開始）。那位讀者認為as of不應解作「截至（某個日期）」，也許就是受了朗文、牛津詞典的影響。
但as of是美式英文，查美國著名詞書出版社的詞典，應該好一點，Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary沒有as at或as from，卻有as of的解釋：on，at，from，即「在某一天」、「在某個時候」或「由某個時候開始」。The American Heritage Dictionary of Idioms給as of的解釋更加清楚：from，at，or until a given time（由某個時候開始、在某個時候或直至某個時候）。
而as of解作「截至」的實例，經常可以見到。美國ProQuest LLC公司出版的A Case Study of a Rural Woman第二章就有以下一句：The cumulative number of estimated deaths of women with AIDS as of 2006 was 89,895（直至二○○六年，患愛滋病去世的婦女，估計總數是八萬九千八百九十五人）。
