一九四四年，美國開始收復關島，日軍準備把當地人殺光，一群查摩洛人先遭毒手。幸而美軍攻勢展開了，屠殺不能繼續。一名前日軍憶述當時他身受重傷，被一名美軍找到。
「他問我是誰，我說：『我是耕田的，是查摩洛人。』他指着我的槍移開了。我鬆了口氣。我剛才痛得厲害，全身扭動，只求早死。血淋淋的褲子，已經脫下拋了。但在槍口下，我發覺自己其實要求生。
「那美國士兵喃喃的說：『你看來傷得很重。』幾個醫務人員擡着擔架，走來把我擡走。」
