"ThatnightahordeofSovietsoldiersstormedintotheapartmenthousenexttoours.Thenweheardwhatsoundedlikeaterribleorgywithwomenscreamingforhelp.SomeoftheSovietstrampledthroughourgardenandbangedtheirriflebuttsonourdoors.Thankgoodnessoursturdywoodendoorswithstoodtheirefforts.Wesatinstunnedsilence,hopingtogivetheimpressionthatthiswasavacanthouse.
"Thenextmorning,therewasacommotionoutside.WerushedtoourlookouttoseethattheSovietshadbrokenintothebankandwerelootingit.TheycameoutyellinggleefullywiththeirhandsfullofGermanbanknotesandjewelleryfromsafedepositboxes.ThankGodwehadwithdrawnmoneyalreadyandhaditathome."
一九四五年四月三十日，蘇聯軍隊進入柏林。一個德國婦人敍述其後的情況：
「那天晚上，一群蘇軍闖進隔壁那幢公寓。我們聽見狂歡似的喧嘩，夾雜着女人求救的尖叫聲。有些蘇聯士兵走進我們的花園，用步槍柄撞門。幸而木門結實，沒有撞開。我們嚇得呆了，靜靜坐着，希望他們以為屋內無人。
「第二天早上，外邊傳來一陣喧鬧聲。我們跑到瞭望處，只見蘇軍闖進了銀行搶劫。他們歡呼着走出來，雙手滿是德國鈔票和從保險箱取得的珠寶。幸而我們的錢已從銀行提出，藏在家裏。」
