"Theheadquartersoffice,whichconsistedofthosewhohadmanagedtoavoidbecominghumantorpedoes,wasoverrunbytoadyingmen.Thecommandingofficerentertainedwomeninhisoffice.IwaspunishedforquestioningoneofhiswomenwhenIwasonnightguardduty.Theareaoutsidethebarrackshadbeenburnedoutbyairraidsandwasfullofhovelsandstarvingpeople,butwithinthebarrackswesawthegluttonyofthesuperiorofficers."

「我們發覺要負責操縱人魚雷，都吃了一驚。一個學員想潛逃，遭軍事拘捕了。我們似乎沒有活着回去的機會。
「總部辦事處滿是諂媚之徒，他們都得免做人魚雷。司令官有女人到他的辦公室交歡。我負責守衞時，曾查問他的一個女人，結果遭受處分。營房之外，是空襲下燒毀的土地，處處都有簡陋的房屋、飢餓的百姓；但營房之內，我們卻看見高級軍官食前方丈。」
