"Withtheprisonerinahorse-drawncart,wewentoutsidethetown.Manyofthelocalinhabitantslinedtheroad,watchingmewithhatredintheireyes.Itsentachilldownmyspine.
"Iaskedtheprisonerwherehewasfrom,andwhyhewascaptured.Ifeltcompassionfortheman,whowasmyownage,andsaidIwaslettinghimgo,soheshouldneverreturntothisplaceagain.Heweptasherepeatedhisthanks.Iaimedmyrifleattheskyandshotthreetimesandmademywayback.WhenIreachedthevillage,everyonewelcomedmewithsmiles,saying,'Thankyouforyourtrouble.'Idon'tknowhowtheyhadseenwhatIhaddone."
一九四五年三月，河南寶豐縣一個日軍奉命處決一個戰俘。以下是他對該事的記述：
「那戰俘上了馬車，我們就一起出城，當地人不少沿途站着，望着我，眼睛充滿仇恨。我心裏感到一陣寒意。
「我問那戰俘從哪裏來，怎麼會被俘虜。這個人年紀和我相同，我很同情他，就說會把他放走，叫他以後不要回來。他哭着向我多次道謝。我朝天開了三槍，然後驅車回去，一入村，人人都笑臉相迎，對我說：『謝謝你。』我剛才所為，不知道他們是怎樣見到的。」
