WhenYoshidawasreleasedfromhospital,thegirlfoundithardtopartwithhim,andresigningfromthehospital,followedhisunit.Whenaskedtodosomething,shealwaysanswered,"Mingpai",andtheJapanesetooktocallingherMingpai.
InDecember1941,thesecondbattleofChangshacommenced.ButMingbaihaddisappeared.TheChineseseemedtohavedetailedinformationabouttheJapaneseforces,andinflictedextremelyheavycasualtiesonthem.Evidently,MingpaiwasaspyfromChungking.
一九三九年第一次長沙會戰，日軍一個叫叉田的連長受傷，送到漢口日軍醫院。醫院聘了不少中國女郎協助照顧病人。照顧叉田的那個少女，性情開朗，待人體貼，而且美麗非常。
叉田出院時，那女郎難捨難離，索性辭了醫院的工作，追隨軍中。日軍叫她做什麼，她都會說：「明白。」日軍於是稱她為「明白」。
一九四一年十二月，第二次長沙會戰爆發。明白失去蹤影。中國軍隊對日軍情況似乎一清二楚，把他們殺得死傷枕藉。明白顯然是重慶來的間諜。
