Strahanwasbroughtbeforetheadmiral,whoinquiredwithassumedanger,"What'sthisyouhavebeendoing?"Strahanscratchedhishead,andreplied,"Whytobesure,sir,Itookthefort,butIhope,yourhonour,therewasn'tnoharminthat."Theadmiral,verymuchinclinedtolaugh,hadtolookgraveanddismissedhimwithhintsatpunishmentfordisobedience.
一七五六年，英軍圍攻印度一個城堡。一天晚上，一等水兵斯特拉恩喝朗姆酒喝得醉醺醺，無意中走到城堡一個缺口前，攀援而登，見到幾個敵人，就揮舞手上彎刀，大叫：「這城堡給我拿了！」一時間，人聲鼎沸，英國士兵、水手乘勢衝進城堡，印度人四散，城堡易手。
斯特拉恩被帶到海軍上將跟前。上將裝出氣憤的樣子，問道：「你做了什麼？」斯特拉恩搔搔頭，回答說：「啊，上將，我是攻佔了城堡，不過，上將，希望沒有什麼損失吧。」上將幾乎失笑，但不得不一臉嚴肅模樣，打發斯特拉恩離去，只暗示他不遵號令，理應懲處。
