In1520,AlvaradoorderedaslaughterofAztecnoblesandpriestsobservingareligiousfestival.ThispromptedanAztecrebellion,andAlvaradowasatonepointsurroundedbytheAztecsandcutofffromhistroopsbyalake.Hewasamanofpowerfulframeanddespairgavehimunnaturalenergy.Fullydressedinaheavysuitofmetal,hesethislonglancefirmlyonthebottomofthelake,andsprangforwardwithallhismight.Heclearedthewidegapataleap.TheAztecsgazedinamazement,exclaiming,"Thisistrulythechildofthesun!"＊
