問：Inthemeantime和atthesametime有什麼分別？
答：Inthemeantime偶然也作inthemeanwhile，其中meantime、meanwhile都是名詞；這兩個字也可以獨立使用，作副詞（adverb），只是meantime的這個用法較為少見，例如：（1）Shegoestoworkat2pm,andcomeshomeat6pm;meanwhile/inthemeantime,hermotherlooksafterthebaby（她下午二時上班，六時回家，其間她母親照顧嬰兒）。（2）Shetookawarmbath;meantime/inthemeanwhile,dinnerwascooking（晚飯在煮的時候，她洗了個暖水澡）。從這兩個例子，可以看到inthemeantime有「其間」或「某段時間之內」的意思。
Atthesametime即「同時」，常有「一起」或「左右為難」含義，例如：（1）Thechildrenallreachedforthesweetsatthesametime（孩子都同時伸手去取糖果）。（2）Iwanttohelphim,butatthesametimeIwanthimtoworkindependently（我想給他援手，但同時又想他獨立工作）。這兩句的atthesametime當然都不可用inthemeantime取代。
