On28June1914,ArchdukeFranzFerdinand,heirtotheAustro-Hungarianthrone,visitedBosnia,whichhadbeenannexedbytheAustro-HungarianEmpire.ABosniannationalisttossedagrenadeathiscar,butthearchdukedeftlybatteditaway.Itexploded,andinjuredoneofhisaides.Thearchdukecontinuedon,butsoondecidedtoalterhisscheduleandvisittheinjuredaideinthehospital.Unfamiliarwiththeroute,hisdrivertookawrongturn.Anofficialshouted,"That'sthewrongway,"andthedriverstoppedthecar.
