'Onething(thisteacher)didliketoreceivefromuswas"HeilHitler!"Everydaywehadtogreether,andothergrown-ups,withthissalute.Iwasusedtodoingthis,butitstillembarrassedme.OnmywaytoschoolonedayIwentintoabusyshopwithoutmakingthegreeting,thinkingnoonewouldnotice,butashopassistantpouncedonme,sayingangrily,"Don'tyouknowtheGermangreeting?"Shemademewalkoutandcomebackintotheshopagain,usingtherightsalute.Thenshestartedtalkingloudlytotheothercustomersaboutchildren'sbadmannersnowadays.'
