'OnedaywhenIwashurryingalongabridgeacrosstheSeine,twoyoungFrenchmenwalkedquicklypastme.TheywerefollowingaNaziofficerinfrontofthem.Astheypassedme,theysaidsomethingtomewhichsoundedlike,"Nowyou'llseehowwedoit."
'BeforeIknewwhatwashappening,oneofthemhadstuckaknifebetweentheshoulderbladesoftheNaziofficer,andbeforetheNazicouldhitthepavement,theotherhadhimbytheseatofhispantsandhadhurledhimintotheSeine.Iandtheotherspectatorsonthebridgethatafternoonranasfastaswecouldtogetoutoftheneighbourhood,notevendaringtolookback."

「有一天，我正匆匆在塞恩河一座橋上走，兩個年輕法國人快步走過我身邊，跟着前面一個納粹軍官。他們走過時，對我說了句這樣的話：『看看我們的手段。』
「我還未知道會發生什麼事，就看見其中一人朝那軍官肩胛骨之間一刀插過去；那軍官還未倒地，另一人已抓住他褲子後襠，把他拋進河裏。我和那天下午橋上的其他目擊者一樣，都盡快跑離現場一帶，連回頭望望都不敢。」
