Atlength,Scaevola,theaugur,beingpressedtodeclarehismind,spokeasfollows:"Though,Sulla,thouthinkesttoterrifymewiththyarmedtroopsthathaveencircledtheSenateHouse,andhavethreatenedmewithdeathitself,yetIscorntosavealittlesuperannuatedblood,bypronouncingMariusanenemytothisstate,bywhosevalourandprudentconductnotonlythecityofRome,butallItaly,hasbeenpreserved."
