Onthemorningofherexecution,afterhavinginvainendeavouredtoprocureapairofscissors,shebrokeoneofthepanesfromthewindowthatwasinherroom,andwithafragmentoftheglasssawedoffherhair,whichshedeliveredtoaconfidentialfriend,tobekeptforherchildren.Shethentookapotofrouge,andwiththeutmostdeliberationappliedsomeofittoeachofhercheeks,sayinginexplanationthatifsheshouldhappentohaveamomentofweakness,thepopulaceatleastshouldnothavethesatisfactionofperceivingit.

在被處死的上午，摩納哥王妃力求要一把剪刀，未能如願，於是她打破囚室那扇窗的一塊玻璃，用碎玻璃割下頭髮，交給一位心腹朋友，留給兒女。然後，她取一盒胭脂，悉心塗抹雙頰，並解釋說，萬一她心裏突然感到虛怯，民眾至少看不出來。她不要讓民眾從中得到喜悅。
