問：Customer和client有什麼分別？
答：Customer是商店的顧客，買的是商品；client是律師、會計師、理髮師、社會工作者等的顧客，要的是專業服務。例如：（1）Hewasaregularcustomerofthelocalgeneralstore（他是當地雜貨店的常客）。（2）Thesolicitorhasmanybusinessclients（那個律師有不少商界的顧客）。
不過，有些商店會把他們的customer稱為client，以為這個稱呼較為「高級」，名貴服裝店尤其如此。英文學者帕特里奇（EricPartridge）對這用法很不滿，在UsageandAbusage（用法和亂用）書中client條下問：What'swrongwith"customer",anyway?（究竟customer一字有什麼不妥？）
留意醫生的顧客叫patient，不叫client。
問：「連續五個月」是fifthstraightmonths還是fiveconsecutivemonths？
答：Consecutive和straight作形容詞，都可解作「連續的」，用法沒有分別；但fifth和five卻不同：five是「五」，fifth是「第五」，例如：RealpropertypricesinHongKongrosesharplyforthefifthconsecutive/straightmonth（香港房地產價格連續第五個月急升）。「連續五個月」是fiveconsecutive/straightmonths，不是fifthconsecutivemonths，例如：RealpropertypricesinHongKongrosesharplyforfiveconsecutive/straightmonths或RealpropertypricesinHongKongrosesharplyforfivemonthsconsecutively/straight。
