第二次世界大戰期間，德國人為補國內勞工短缺，強行徵召外國工人。一九四二年四月，在德軍佔領的法國，全國各地開始徵召勞工。
巴黎的愛國人士暗中破壞這個強徵勞工計劃。一九四二年十月，一列火車原定運送四百名工人由巴黎東站往德國，如期來到車站的卻只有二十七人。不過，當場還是有演講，並有銅管樂隊奏樂給他們送行。
火車頭慢慢開出月臺的時候，群眾哈哈大笑起來。火車車廂沒有跟着開出。有人解開了火車頭和車廂之間的掛鈎。那火車頭獨自在噗哧噗哧聲中奮勇前進。
【附注】從前法國工人習慣穿的木鞋，英文叫sabot。法國工人曾經抗拒工業科技，用木鞋破壞機器，所以sabotage就是「蓄意並多是悄悄的破壞」。
