MauthausenConcentrationCampwasagroupof49NaziconcentrationcampssituatedinAustria.ItwasmainlyusedforexterminationthroughlabourofGermany'spoliticalandideologicalenemies,bothrealandimagined.BetweenAugust1938andMay1945,anestimated195,000persons,menandwomen,wereforcedintothecamp,andatleast95,000ofthemdied.
Whentheinmatesweretotallyexhaustedafterhavingworkedinadeepstonequarryfor12hoursaday,theyweretransferredtothesickbarracksforextermination.Itwasthepracticeofthosewhocouldstanditnolongertogotothetopofthequarryandjumpoff.TwoJewishbrothersdecidedtotaketheirlivesandshookhandswiththeirfriendsbeforemakingtheclimb.AtthetoptheymettwoSSguardsandshookhandswiththemtoo--theyheldontightandjumped,eachtakinganoppressorwithhim.
納粹黨的毛特豪森集中營位在奧地利，由四十九個集中營組成，主要用途是以勞動方式，消滅德國政治上和意識形態上或真或假的敵人。一九三八年八月到一九四五年五月，估計有十九萬五千男女被送進去，其中至少九萬五千人死亡。
集中營囚徒每天要在一個很深的採石場工作十二小時，到再也無力工作的時候，就被送到病人營消滅。支持不住的囚徒，往往會走到採石場最高處跳下去。有兩個猶太兄弟決定尋死，和朋友握手之後，就爬上採石場最高處，見到兩個納粹黨衞軍，也和這兩個黨衞軍握手──一握着就抓緊不放，縱身跳下，各帶一個迫害他們的人歸西。
