On20July1944,hewassummonedtoattendabriefingattheWolf'sLair,Hitler'scommandpostfortheEasternfrontinPrussia.Stauffenbergcarriedabombinabriefcase,andplaceditundertheconferencetablebesideHitler.Afewminuteslater,helefttheroomwiththeexcuseoftakingaphonecall.Insteadheleftthebuildinganddroveaway.Unfortunately,anotherarmyofficerattendingthebriefingfoundthebriefcaseinhisway,andmovedittoonesideawayfromHitler.Thebombexploded,killingfourpeople,butHitlerwasonlyslightlyinjured.On21July,Stauffenbergwasexecutedbyfiringsquadat12:30am.
納粹德國軍官克勞斯．馮．施陶芬柏格是天主教徒，恨納粹政權殘暴恐怖，一九四二年和一些對納粹黨失望的軍官合謀，準備刺殺希特勒。
一九四四年七月二十日，施陶芬柏格奉召到普魯士的狼穴，即希特勒的東方戰線指揮部，出席簡報會。他在公事包裏藏了個炸彈，放在會議桌下希特勒身邊，幾分鐘之後，託詞要接電話，走出會議室，離開狼穴，開車而去。可惜的是，出席簡報會的另一名軍官嫌那公事包礙着他，移到一旁，不靠近希特勒。炸彈爆炸，炸死了四人，希特勒卻只是受了輕傷。七月二十一日凌晨十二時三十分，施陶芬柏格遭行刑隊槍決。
