In1945,withtheSovietarmyrapidlyadvancingintoGermany,WernervonBraun,theGermanrocketphysicistwhoinventedtheV-2,askedhisstafftowhomtheyshouldsurrender.AfraidofSovietcrueltytoprisonersofwar,theydecidedtosurrendertotheAmericans.
KnowingthattheirSSguardshadorderstoexecutethemshouldtheybeindangeroffallingintoenemyhands,vonBraunconvincedSSMajorKummertodispersetheteamintonearbyvillages,supposedlytoavoidAmericanbombs.WhentheAmericansfinallyarrived,vonBraunwasabletosurrenderhisentireteamofrocketengineersandallthetechnologytheyhadinventedfortheNazis.TheywerepromptlywhiskedawaytotheUS,wheretheydevelopedarocketthatcouldsendmentothemoon.
一九四五年，蘇聯軍隊長驅徑入德國。發明V2火箭的德國火箭物理學家維爾納．馮．布勞恩問手下同事想向哪一方投降。大家都害怕蘇聯對戰俘的殘忍手段，決定投降美軍。
馮．布勞恩知道，看守他們的納粹黨衞軍奉命，一旦他們可能落在敵人手上，就把他們處決。他於是說服黨衞軍少校庫默爾把全隊人分散到附近的農村去，表面理由是躲避美軍轟炸。最後，美軍來了，馮．布勞恩就率領整隊火箭工程師投降，並獻上為納粹黨發明的所有科技。他們馬上被送到美國，研製出可以送人上月球的火箭。
