Dare一字是怎樣用的？Daretoeat（敢吃）和dareeat兩個說法我都見過。「我說你不夠膽吃蛇」英文可不可說Idareyounottoeatsnake？
Dare通常作普通動詞用，現在式第三人稱（thirdpersonsingular）是dares，過去式是dared，其後可用to帶出另一動詞，例如：（1）Doeshedaretospeakagainstthegovernment?（他敢不敢批評政府？）（2）Hedidnotdaretoclimbthecliff（他不敢攀那懸崖）。（3）Heistheonlyonewhodarestofightthelion（他是唯一敢和獅子搏鬥的人）。
Dare之後的to字，有時會略去，例如：（1）Doeshedarespeakagainstthegovernment?（2）Hedidnotdareclimbthecliff。（3）Heistheonlyonewhodaresfightthelion。
Dare還可作輔助動詞，用法有如can、may等，現在式第三人稱是dare，過去式是dared或dare，例如：（1）Darehespeakagainstthegovernment?（2）Hedarednotclimbthecliff。（3）Heistheonlyonewhodarefightthelion。留意dare多用於否定句或疑問句，較少用於肯定的說法。
又「dare+受詞（object）+to+原形動詞（infinitive）」，可用來說「諒某某不敢做某事」，有激將意味，例如：（1）Idareyoutosqueezethetrigger（我諒你不敢扣槍的扳機）。（2）Hedaredmetojumpacrosstheriver（他激我，說我不敢跳過河）。所以，「我說你不夠膽吃蛇」，不應譯作Idareyounottoeatsnake，而應說Idareyoutoeatsnake。
