英文歌"DustintheWind"（風裏微塵）有一句說：Allweareisdustinthewind（人之為物，無非風裏微塵）。為什麼are之後還有is一字？可不可改為Allwearedustinthewind？
All作形容詞，指「所有的」；作名詞，指「一切」或「所有的人」。這個all不可用在we、you、they等代名詞之前，例如不可說Allwearedust，只可說Allofusaredust或Wearealldust。
至於Allweareisdustinthewind一語，全寫是Allthatweareisdustinthewind，那All指「一切」，thatweare是關係子句（relativeclause），文法上獨立於主要子句Allisdust。Allweareisdustinthewind直譯就是「我們是什麼都好，無非風裏微塵」。All之後用that子句的例子很常見，例如：（1）All（that）shewantsistogohome（她只想回家）。（2）All（that）Iwouldliketoknowiswhetherthereissomemistake（我只想知道有沒有錯誤）。
Theapplicantmustbea/anHKpermanentresident（申請人必須是香港永久居民）這一句，應用a還是an？
H這個字母，讀作【eitʃ】，第一音是母音（vowel），所以應冠以an，例如：Theword"hour"beginswithan"h",thoughthe"h"issilent（Hour一字以h開始，但h不發音）。不過，HongKong的縮寫HK，一般會直讀作HongKong，不會讀作較拗口的的eitʃkei，所以一般會說aHKresident，不說anHKresident：用a還是an，看讀音而定，不看字母。
