Atthatmoment,theMongolsattacked,andthefortressfell.

成吉思汗攻不破城牆，就轉而用計，向守城者說，只要向他獻上一千隻貓、一萬隻燕子，他就會解圍而去。守城者覺得奇怪，照他的話辦了。那些動物送到蒙古營中之後，成吉思汗命令手下把棉花團縛在各動物的尾巴上，然後用火點燃。那些動物受驚，一獲釋放，就或飛或跑回到城中的巢穴，引起數以百計的小火。守城者慌忙撲救。
這時，蒙古軍乘機進擊，攻陷了城堡。
