Therefore一字之後應不應用逗點？
逗點的一個用法，是《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》所謂toshowwherethereisaslightpauseinasentence（顯示句中稍稍停頓處）。這停頓無礙文法，今天多會把逗點略去。Therefore前後的逗點，一般就是可有可無的。
Therefore用於句首，詞書有以下例句，一加逗點，一不加：（1）Therefore,thepicniciscanceled（郊遊野餐因此取消。見NTC'sAmericanEnglishLearner'sDictionary）。（2）Thereforetheyneedmoreprotein（他們因此需要多些蛋白質。見第二版AnA-ZofEnglishGrammarandUsage）。
用於句中，則有以下例句，逗點也是一用一不用：（1）Weshall,therefore,returntothisitematournextmeeting（因此，下次會議我們將再討論這一點。見第六版《牛津高階》）。（2）Ihavethereforedecidedtoresign（因此，我決定辭職。見第一版MacmillanEnglishDictionaryforAdvancedLearners）。
至於andtherefore，其後一般不用逗點，但and之前卻是用的較多，不用當然也無妨，例如：（1）Heworkedhard,andthereforehewasabletosavemoney（他努力工作，因此攢到錢。見ChambersUniversalLearners'Dictionary）。（2）Theitemyourequestedisnolongeravailableandthereforewearereturningyourcheque（你要的貨沒有了，謹把支票奉還。見第二版《朗文當代高級詞典》）。
從前，ofcourse、perhaps、however等字用於句中，習慣前後都加逗點，但現在往往略去。讀者見到兩個標點法，不必因此生疑。
