HickeystoodsilentlywhenthedishofgreenpeaswasservedtoWashington.SuddenlyastonishmentcrossedHickey'sface:Washingtonthrewthepeasoutthewindowandwatchedasseveralchickensatethemandfelldead.
Hickeywasarrested,andafewmonthslaterhanged.

華盛頓經常光顧菲比父親在紐約創辦的酒館。他的一名保鏢湯瑪斯．希基參加了英國暗殺華盛頓的密謀，和菲比交歡，並請她把一種有毒綠色粉末混入華盛頓愛吃的青豌豆裏。菲比答應，但後來把這陰謀告訴華盛頓。
那盤青豌豆端到華盛頓桌上。希基站在一旁，不動聲色。忽然，他臉上露出一絲驚訝神情：華盛頓把豌豆倒到窗外，看着幾隻雞啄食後倒地死亡。
希基被拘捕，幾個月後處以絞刑。
