Inthe15thcentury,religiousreformersinBohemiadissatisfiedwiththeabusesoftheRomanCatholicChurchwerecalledtheHussites.On30July1419,JanZelivsky,aHussitepriest,ledhiscongregationthroughthestreetsofPraguetothetownhall,callingforthereleaseofseveralHussitesimprisonedbythemagistrates.WhenastonewasthrownatZelivskyfromthewindowofthetownhall,thecrowdbecameenragedandstormedthehall.Onceinside,theythrewsevenmembersofthetowncounciloutofthewindowtotheirdeath.
ThekingofBohemiawassostunnedwhenthedefenestrationwasreportedtohimthathehadaheartattackanddied.WarbrokeoutbetweentheHussitesandthepapalandimperialforcessoonafterwards.
十五世紀時，波希米亞有所謂胡斯教派。他們是宗教改革者，不滿羅馬天主教會弊病叢生。一四一九年七月三十日，胡斯派教士揚．柴利夫斯基率領會眾走過布拉格街道，來到市政廳前，呼籲釋放被法官繫囚的幾名胡斯教徒。有人從市政廳窗口向柴利夫斯基擲出一塊石頭，激起群眾怒火，攻入市政廳，把市議會七名成員拋到窗外跌死。
波希米亞國王聽到「拋人出窗」事件的報告，十分震驚，心臟病發，一命嗚呼。不久，胡斯教派就和教皇以及國王的聯軍爆發戰爭。
【附注】Defenestration由拉丁文de（下）和fenestra（窗子）合成，意思是「從窗口拋下」。胡斯教派和教皇、國王的聯軍打了多年，到一四三六年戰爭才告結束。
