Whilethepiratecodeinthe18thcenturyexplicitlyforbadefemalecrewmembers,thereweretwowomenpiratesonJackRackham'spirateship:AnneBonnyandMaryRead.Theybothdisguisedthemselvesasmen,andintimesofactionnooneelsewasasruthlessandbloodthirstyasthesetwowomen.
In1720,afterhavingwreakedhavocthroughouttheCaribbeanformorethanayear,Jack'sshipwascapturedbyaBritishNavysloop.Jackandtheothermenwerehanged.Marywasalsofoundguilty,butsinceshewaspregnant,shereceivedatemporarystayofexecution.Shediedofaviolentfeverwhileinprisonin1721,beforethebirthofherchild.Therearescatteredreportsthatshewasrepeatedlyrapedduringherincarceration.
十八世紀海盜法規清楚禁止有女性船員，但傑克．拉克姆的海盜船上卻有兩名女海盜：安．邦尼和瑪麗．利德。她們同樣女扮男裝，戰鬥時之殘酷嗜殺，更是無有出其右者。
一七二○年，傑克的海盜船肆虐加勒比海各地超過一年之後，終於被英國海軍一艘砲艦捕獲。傑克和其他男海盜都被處絞刑。瑪麗也判有罪，但因懷孕，死刑押後執行。一七二一年，她在獄中發高燒去世，腹中孩子還未出生。有零星的報告說，瑪麗監禁期間多次遭強姦。
【附注】從前軍隊司令戰爭勝利後，下令士兵搶掠，會高叫Havoc！後來，havoc就引伸為「大破壞」的意思，例如：Thetyphooncausedmuchhavoc（颱風造成嚴重的破壞）。
