BenedictArnoldwasageneralintheAmericanRevolution.DuringthebattleofSaratogainOctober1777,hewasrelievedofhiscommandbyhissuperiorbecauseofinsubordination.Butoncefightingbegan,hecouldnotstayaway.Damninghisorders,hedownedaslugofrum,jumpedontoahorse,andchargedintobattle.ThesightofArnoldbrandishinghissabreandgallopinghereandthereunderconstantfiregreatlyinvigoratedtheragtagAmericanarmy,andthecrackBritishtroopscollapsed.Arnoldwasshotinhisleftleg,andasaresulthadalimpfortherestofhisdays.
AnotherresultofhisbraverywasthattheFrenchbecameconvincedthattheBritishcouldbedefeated.TheyenteredthewarontheAmericans'side,whichhelpedspeedtheinfantUnitedStatestovictory.
貝納狄克．安諾德是美國獨立戰爭時期將領，一七七七年十月薩拉托加戰役中，因桀驁不馴，被上司解除指揮權，但他一見兩軍接戰，就無法作壁上觀，喝一口朗姆酒，不顧命令，縱身上馬，衝向戰場，揮舞軍刀，冒着連綿炮火，左衝右突，烏合成軍的美國士兵見了，士氣大振，英國的精銳部隊則紛紛潰敗。安諾德左腿中槍，結果終生走路一瘸一拐。
安諾德的勇氣還有另一結果，就是教法國人相信可以打敗英軍。他們參戰協助美國人，使新生的美國早一點贏得勝利。
