DavyCrockett,acelebratedAmericanfolkhero,foughtforTexasinitsstruggleforindependencefromMexico.Hewaskilledin1836,whentheMexicansstormedtheAlamofortress.LegendhasitthatCrockettfoughttothebitterend,andhisbodywasfoundsurroundedby16Mexicancorpses,withCrockett'sknifeburiedinoneofthem.Thetruth,however,appearstobeotherwise.
AccordingtoaccountswrittenbyMexicansoldiers,attheendofthebattle,Crockettandsixothermenwerefoundinabackroom,andCrocketttriedtotalkhiswayoutbysayingthathehadplannedtobecomealoyalMexicancitizenandhadtakennopartinthefighting.TheywerebroughttoGeneralSantaAnna,who,incensedthathis"takenoprisoners"orderhadbeenignored,commandedtheirimmediateexecution.
大維．克洛基是美國民間著名的英雄，為德克薩斯爭取脫離墨西哥而戰，一八三六年墨西哥軍隊猛攻阿拉莫堡壘，克洛基被殺。根據傳說，他力戰不屈，死後有人發現他周圍躺着十六個墨西哥人屍體，其中一人身上還插着克洛基的小刀。不過，事實似乎和傳說不同。
據墨西哥將士記載，戰鬥結束後，發現克洛基和另外六個人藏身密室裏。克洛基想憑三寸舌脫身，說自己一直想做墨西哥的忠誠公民，並沒有參與戰鬥。他們被帶到聖安納將軍跟前。聖安納見士兵沒有聽從他的「不活捉一人」命令，十分憤怒，下令把克洛基等人馬上處死。
