DanielBoone,anotedAmericanpioneerwhofoundedthetownofBoonesboroughin1775,wasamilitiaofficerduringtheAmericanRevolutionaryWar.InFebruary1778,hewascapturedbyabandofBritish-alliedShawneeIndians,butwhenhelearnedinJunethattheIndianswereplanninganattackonBoonesborough,heescapedandracedhome,covering160milesinfivedaysonhorsebackand,afterhishorsegaveout,onfoot.Thesettlement,reinforcedandprovisionedinpreparationfortheassault,withstoodaten-daysiege.Boonetookpartinthedefence.
However,afterthesiege,BoonewaschargedwithtreasonsincehehadapparentlylivedquitehappilyamongtheShawneesformonths.Hewascourt-martialled,butfoundnotguilty.Despitethisvindication,Boonefelthumiliated,andmovedawayfromBoonesboroughayearlater.
丹尼爾．布恩是美國著名拓荒者，一七七五年建立布恩斯伯勒鎮，美國獨立戰爭期間任國民軍軍官，一七七八年二月被一群和英國結盟的肖尼族印第安人俘虜，到了六月，聽到他們準備進攻布恩斯伯勒，連忙脫身回家，五天趕了一百六十英里，先是騎馬，馬不能支，就徒步走。布恩斯伯勒加強防禦儲足糧食備戰，被圍十天不破。布恩在防禦戰中也有出力。
可是，肖尼族人解圍而去後，布恩被控通敵，因為他和肖尼族人一起過了幾個月，而且生活似乎頗為愉快。他被軍事法庭審訊，獲判無罪。但布恩雖然證明清白，卻覺得受了屈辱，一年之後就棄布恩斯伯勒而去。
