Legendsaysthathewaslaidtorestinatriplecoffinmadeofgold,silver,andiron.HismendivertedasectionoftheriverTisza,buriedthecoffinundertheriverbed,andthenwerekilledtokeeptheexactlocationasecret.
匈奴王阿提拉蹂躪了西歐多處地區。但很少人會想到，這樣勇猛的戰士，竟然會那樣死去。
公元四五三年，阿提拉迎娶一位著名美女，他酒量不大，但結婚那晚，卻喝了很多酒，和新娘回到寢室，就沉沉醉倒，仰天而卧。這時他忽然鼻血猛流，窒息死了。看來，他雖然權勢熏天，卻有經常鼻出血之苦。
據說，阿提拉遺體被放進金、銀、鐵鑄成的三層棺材裏。他手下把蒂薩河的一段改道，埋棺河牀下，然後都遭殺害，以防洩漏棺材的確實位置。
