Howtodoit（怎樣做）四字是不是名詞片語（nounphrase）？
用how、where、which、whether等疑問詞起首的子句（clause）或片語，文法上等於一般名詞，所以都是名詞片語或子句，例如：（1）Ididnotknowwhetheritwastrue（我不知道那是不是真的）。（2）Howtodoitisdifficulttotell（怎樣做實在難說）。第一句的名詞子句whetheritwastrue是作受詞（object），第二句的名詞片語howtodoit則是作主詞（subject）。
讀兩家公司的審計報告，同樣有以下句子，但一家用現在式動詞，一家用過去式，請問意思有沒有分別？──Includedinthebalancesheetis/wasanamount,inrespectofwhichwehavebeenunable/wereunabletoobtainevidencetosatisfyourselvesastowhethertheamountis/wascorrect。
謹先把句子翻譯如下：「資產負債表上有一金額，其數目是否正確，我們無法查證。」文法上，讀者說的句子可用is、havebeen、is或was、were、was，只是用現在式動詞的句子，應是說目前的一分資產負債表；用過去式動詞的句子，則應是說早些時的負債表。
泛指「孕婦」，可不可以說thepregnant？
「The+形容詞」，一般可用來泛指某一種人，例如theblind（盲人）、thedeaf（聾人）、thepowerful（有權勢的人）、thebeautiful（美人）等，thepregnant當然可以泛指孕婦，例如：Giveyourseattothepregnant（請讓座給孕婦）。
