皮拉斯兵臨城下那一晚，基洛尼斯在脖子上繫了個活繩結，準備城陷就自經，決不和克里歐尼莫斯一起多活一天。
第二天，戰爭開始。阿克羅塔圖斯王子徵集三百人，悄悄繞到敵後，殺了不少皮拉斯的手下。斯巴達人都看到他殺敵，城中老人高喊：「阿克羅塔圖斯，繼續吧，和基洛尼斯一起快活，給斯巴達生一些勇敢的孩子。」
