一家美國公司有告示說：Duetoincreaseddemand,wearelimitingricepurchases（由於需求增加，顧客買米現須限制）。Duetoincreaseddemand改為Given/Inviewof/Onaccountof/Becauseofincreaseddemand會不會好一點？
Dueto的用法，歷來議論甚多。簡而言之，有嚴格文法家認為dueto不是介系詞（preposition）而是形容詞（adjective），應用在名詞之前、be或其變體is、were等之後，例如不應說Duetocarelessness,hemademanymistakes而應說Hismanymistakeswereduetocarelessness（他不小心，犯了很多錯誤）。要用介系詞起句，則應說Owingto/Becauseof/Onaccountofhiscarelessness,hemademanymistakes。
一九三四年第二版《韋氏最新國際詞典》（Webster'sNewInternationalDictionary）due字條下說「dueto一詞，往往誤用作複合介系詞」（oftenerroneouslyusedinthephrase"dueto"...inthemannerofacompoundpreposition），但到了一九四○年代末葉，該詞典修改了說法，改為「dueto作介系詞用，有人反對，卻是普遍、標準的用法」（prepositional"dueto"...thoughobjectedtobysome,isincommonandreputableuse）。第七版《牛津高階英漢雙解詞典》有以下例句：Theprojecthadtobeabandonedduetoalackofgovernmentfunding（計劃缺乏政府資助，惟有放棄）。《牛津高階》編者顯然也不反對dueto作介系詞用，只是句子下注明：「有人認為動詞之後宜用owingto。」
然則那家美國公司告示中的句子，照讀者建議修改，當然不錯；但不改其實也無妨。
