MilitarycommanderwiththeFrenchforcesintheAmericanRevolutionaryWar,ArmandLauzunwasaFrenchpeerwhosupportedtheFrenchRevolution.In1793,hewassenttoVendee,acoastalregioninFrance,tohelpsuppressaRoyalistinsurgencythere.Hegainedseveralsuccesses,butafterhesubmittedhisresignation,hewassenttotheguillotinebythebloodthirstyFrenchRevolutionaryCommitteebecauseofhis"undueleniencytotheinsurgents".

美國獨立戰爭中的法軍司令阿爾芒．洛贊是法國貴族，支持法國大革命。一七九三年，他奉命往法國沿海地區旺代，協助平定當地保王黨叛亂，打了幾場勝仗，但後來提出辭呈。渴血的法國革命委員會說他「對叛亂分子太過仁厚」，把他送上斷頭臺。
劊子手到囚房抓洛贊時，見他正在把酒吃牡蠣。洛贊對他說：「老兄，待我吃喝完畢才動手吧。來，喝一杯。做你這一行，要很有勇氣。」
【附注】法國在美國獨立戰爭中出兵相助，美國曾經有一艘戰船名為「洛贊」，以紀念他的貢獻。旺代叛亂其實不只是保王黨叛亂：當地不少平民不堪苛政，加入叛軍行列。政府軍所到之處，大肆屠殺。老人被集體活埋、無數婦女被強姦等記載，成為法國大革命史上可恥一頁。
