一八三○年七月二十七日，著名法國歷史學家朱爾斯．米舍萊在師範學院講課，遠處突然傳來砲聲，打斷了他的說話。名副其實的七月革命開始了，獨裁的查理十世被逐下臺，由立憲君主路易．菲力普取代。
米舍萊轉身對興奮的學生說：「各位，他們在創造歷史，我們要把這段歷史紀錄下來。」
【附注】留意inthedistance和atadistance的分別。Inthedistance是「在遠處」，atadistance則是「在一段距離之外」，例如：（1）Wewatchedthecrocodilesatasafedistance（我們在安全的距離看那些鱷魚）。（2）Thestrayedtravellertookheartwhenhesawacolumnofsmokeinthedistance（那迷途的行人見到遠處長煙升起，心情振奮）。
Makehistory是「創造歷史」，即做一些歷史上的大事，例如：AlexanderGrahamBellmadehistorywhenheinventedthetelephone（亞歷山大．格雷姆．貝爾發明電話，翻開了歷史新的一頁）。Makehistory當然不是中共式創造歷史。中共式創造歷史英文叫tofabricatehistory，中文叫「揑造歷史」。
