報紙標題有wonbig這說法，內文則說某人wonbigvictories（取得大勝）。那wonbig說法正不正確？
Big一般是形容詞（adjective），修飾名詞，例如Hewonbigvictories的big是形容victory；不過，big也可作副詞（adverb），修飾動詞，意思是inabigway（大大地），多用於口頭英語，常見的說法有totalkbig（誇言）、tothinkbig（眼光遠大）、tolookbig（一副自大樣子）等，例如：（1）Ifyouwanttosucceed,youmustthinkbig（你要成功，眼光就要大）。（2）Ifailed,andIfailedbig（我失敗了，大大的失敗了）。Towinbig無非towinbigvictories的通俗說法。
Howmanybooksarethereontheshelf?（架上有多少本書？）這一句，改為轉述問句（indirectquestion），老師說是Heaskedhowmanybooksareontheshelf，但不是應改為Heaskedhowmanybooksthereareontheshelf嗎？
英文可以說Booksareontheshelf，也可以說Therearebooksontheshelf，但第一句說起來很不自然，一般人不會說。初次提及或未能明確界定的人、物，英文習慣用there帶出，例如Isanyonewaiting？（有沒有人在等候？）、Nooneisintheroom（房間裏沒有人）等，改說Isthereanyonewaiting？以及Thereisnooneintheroom會自然一點。
同樣，你可以說Howmanybooksareontheshelf？以及Iaskedhowmanybooksareontheshelf，但加there一字會自然一點：Howmanybooksarethereontheshelf？以及Iaskedhowmanybooksthereareontheshelf。
