英國軍人查理．內皮爾曾參與半島戰爭，曾出征美國，又曾在希臘、英國本土服役，之後奉命到信德，即今日巴基斯坦東南部地區。一八四二年八月，他把信德收入英帝國版圖，用拉丁文上書報捷，書中只有一個字：「Peccavi（余罪深矣）。」
他在日記上說：「我們沒有權奪取信德，但一定會奪取。這是很卑劣的行徑，但會有大利，有大用，還有濟世之德。」
【附注】英國詩人吉普林（RudyardKipling1865-1936）有一首"SeatoSea"，把西方殖民行動稱為向其他民俗傳遞文明的善舉，呼籲TakeuptheWhiteMan'sburden（挑起白人的重擔）。內皮爾表達的，正是這種思想。
Sendnews是「傳達信息」，另一說法是sendword，你大可以說Napiersentwordofhissuccess等等。Word解作「消息」，是不可數名詞（uncountablenoun），例如：Ihavejustgotwordofhismisfortune（我剛剛聽到他倒運的消息）。
