Oneeveninghesaidtome,"IthinkI'llsleepheretonight."Ianswered,"Verygood,sir,"andscrapedaholeinthesandandlaidhisblanketonit.Asarulewecouldalwayssleepdirectlywelaydown,butinafewmomentshesaid,"Ican'tsleephere,Wickenden.There'ssuchanabominablesmelljusthere.""Oh,thatcomesfromoverthehillyonder,sir,wherethereareafewdeadhorses,"Ireplied.However,Iscrapedaholeforhimsomewhereelse,andwhilemovingtheblanketIdiscoveredthebodyofablack,buriedjustbelowthesurface,whichmymasterhadexposedbytwistingandturningaboutinhissleeplessness.
