Asergeantstandingoutsidetheplayhousedoorheardthefiringandimmediatelyranintotheplayhouse,gotupontothestageandcried,"Turnout!Turnout!Theyarehardatit,hammerandtongs."Thewholeaudiencethoughtthatthesergeantwasactingapartinthefarce,andthathediditsowellthattherewasageneralclapandsuchanoisethathecouldnotbeheardforsometime.Itwasonlywhentheclappingwasoverthatthesergeantwasabletomakeitclearthathewasnotplayacting.
