In1942,thecrewofaBritishsubmarinearrivedintheServiglianoPOWCampinItaly.Thecoxswainofthecraftwasahugeman,whorejoicedinthenameof"Tiny".Thehuttheywereputintowasadjacenttotheseawardperimeterwall,anditdidnottakethemlongtorealisethatitmightbepossibletotunnelout.
Atunnelwasdug,startingunderneaththestoveinthehut,togounderthewallandcomeuptobreakthroughintheoutsideworld.Thenightcamefortheattempt,andthecrewstartedtowrigglethroughthetunneluntilitcametoTiny'sturn,whenhegotwellandtrulystuck.Hismatestooksolongtofreehimthat,bythetimetheywereabletobreakout,itwasdaylight.Needlesstosay,theywereroundedupquickly.
一九四二年，英國一艘潛水艇的船員來到義大利塞爾維利亞諾戰俘營，船長是個大塊頭，卻有個滑稽名字：小不點。囚禁他們的小木屋，鄰近向海的圍牆。他們不久就想到，或者可以挖地道逃走。
他們在木屋裏的火爐下開始挖掘地道，經過圍牆之下，鑽出地面，就是外邊世界。逃走的那一晚，各船員逐一擠過地道，輪到小不點，鑽進地道後，被卡在那裏，完全動彈不得。夥伴要助他脫困，久久不能成功，到他們脫身的時候，白天已經降臨。不用說，他們一下子就被捕獲。
