ButEisenhowerwasnotimmunetoverbalbloopers.WhileservingduringWorldWarIIascommanderofAlliedforcesinNorthAfricaandItaly,hegavethefollowingordertohistroops:"DonotneedlesslyendangeryourlivesuntilIgiveyouthesignal."
美國第三十四任總統德懷特．艾森豪不大熱心參政，一九五二年贏得共和黨提名之前，從來沒有投票。或問他是共和黨人還是民主黨人，他說：「我是美國人。」很有總統風範。
但艾森豪有時也會當眾說錯話。第二次世界大戰期間，他擔任北非和義大利區盟軍司令，訓令部隊說：「沒有必要，我發出信號之前，切勿冒生命危險。」
